Screening a Success
a FREE FOR ALL! in Chicago, IL on October 24 hosting review
It was a rainy, cold Chicago night but people still came out. There were some technical problems and we had to move spaces. But the guests were patient and understanding and even helped us move around, which broke the ice and made everyone more familiar. The event was posted on the Obama Campaign website which sparked the interest of Susan Bailey who is producing a documentary on grassroots organizing for Obama. She interviewed me for her project.
After it was all said and done, everyone left with our resource guide and a better idea of the election process and the possiblities for fraud.

Questions for the host:

Q: Why did you host this screening? What were your goals?
A: As an independent journalist, I see Obama as a candidate who does not necessarily represent the kind of drastic political change that is needed to fully restore this democracy. But, he does present the opportunity for progressives and community organizations to utilize the true democratic process and hold him accountable. I see all this wonder magic happening around the country where people are becoming involved as true citizens. Grandparents and their grandchildren door-knocking in their neighborhoods. Long-time Republicans campaigning for Obama. There's this chance for all that to mean very little if the elections were stolen again. I wanted people to have some context and understand what they could do to ensure this would be a fair election.

Q: Any advice for future screening hosts?
A: Encourage your guests to share their past experiences with voting.

Q: Would you do it again for another film?
A: YES

The venue, Radio Arte & Yollocalli, gets 5 stars
